Economic development should bring job opportunities and growth to residents and communities that need it the most.
The ultimate goal of development in the District should be to expand DC’s economy in ways that create opportunities for all residents to thrive. DCFPI works to make sure that the city’s economic development spending—much of which comes in the form of tax abatements—are transparent, so that policymakers and the public can determine whether they are a good use of the city’s resources that will benefit all DC residents.
