Mayor Gray and DC Council: Welfare-to-Work Efforts Need Your Full Support to Succeed

The District has redesigned the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) program to better help parents move to employment.  This new approach has shown promising results, with more parents engaging in work preparation activities and connecting to employment.  But a lack of funding threatens its success.  We thank the Mayor for identifying funds to partially fill the budget gap but encourage him to work with the DC Council to find the $5.8 million dollars needed to completely close the gap.  Fully funding the TANF program will keep families on a path of progress and independence.
