Michael Richardson Joins DCFPI’s Board of Directors

The DC Fiscal Policy Institute (DCFPI) is pleased to welcome Michael Richardson to its Board of Directors.

Richardson has decades of experience in advocacy and community engagement, with a focus on the challenges and opportunities faced by workers and students. He currently serves as Director of Worker and Student Voice at the National Skills Coalition (NSC), where he plays a vital role in amplifying the voices of workers and students nationwide. Over his nearly eight-year tenure at NSC, he has held several leadership roles, including Senior State Network Manager, where he led the development and coordination of state coalitions advancing skills policies that create equitable opportunities and outcomes for workers—particularly for those most affected by systemic barriers.

Prior to NSC, Richardson was the Advocacy Coordinator for the Poverty to Prosperity team at the Center for American Progress, where he empowered national, state, and local coalitions with critical resources and advocacy tools.  He also managed and developed the Story Network—a platform dedicated to amplifying the voices of individuals with lived experiences of poverty.

“I’m elated to welcome Michael Richardson to DCFPI’s Board especially as DC is navigating compounding workforce issues,” said Erica Williams, executive director of DCFPI. “His deep commitment to racial justice and systems change and longtime experience advocating for public investments that provide workers and students with opportunity will be invaluable as we push for policies that build a more inclusive economy in the District.”

“I’m incredibly honored to join the board of DC Fiscal Policy Institute,” Richardson said. “As someone who cares deeply about equity and opportunity in our city, I’m grateful to be part of such a dynamic organization that’s fighting every day for policies that protect our most vulnerable neighbors. I’m especially inspired by DCFPI’s commitment to Black and Brown communities and to the broader vision of collective liberation, values that I deeply share. I’m excited to keep showing up for this work, advocating for solutions that not only safeguard our communities but also create conditions for people to truly thrive.”

Richardson’s appointment to DCFPI’s Board of Directors reinforces the organization’s commitment to advancing equitable policies that support a stronger, more inclusive DC. Learn more about DCFPI’s Board of Directors.
