The latest Census data show that although DC median income is rising, Black residents are not benefitting much from DC’s growing prosperity, and many people of color are still struggling to make ends meet.
The District stands out as a unique success story, through actions by DC’s leaders to ensure that the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) program supports low-income families with children.
Today, the DC Fiscal Policy Institute released a report outlining how District leaders can adopt a “high-road” approach to economic development projects to support workers, strengthen the economy, and create higher quality projects.
The report shows that key DC tax rates have remained largely the same, and in some cases gone down, since the early 2000s.
