A Congressional Supercommittee is charged with making recommendations to cut $1.2 trillion from the US deficit by Thanksgiving. But the impact from these recommendations won’t be limited to the federal budget ‘they could have a big impact on state budgets too, including DC’s. With state budgets still hurting from the recession, significant cuts to these areas could put the brakes on states’ recovery efforts, including the District’s. In fact, some areas under consideration for cuts, like education and workforce training, are the District’s top priorities for investment to help our residents and our city move forward out of these tough economic times.
