The July Column discusses how the District’s financial woes are being misdiagnosed.  It finds that while DC’s finances have suffered in the recession ‘ as have nearly every other city and states ‘ DC has actually weathered the economic storm better than most states.  The misdiagnosis of DC’s finances have led to the wrong prescription to fix them, and have led to the creation of unnecessary limits on policymakers that will inhibit their ability to make the critical reinvestments the District needs as we exit the recession.
