Putting DC To Work: A Resource Map of the District’s Workforce Development Services| February 13th, 2012 | PDF of this report
What can the District do to help residents get jobs? First, it’s important to understand what DC has been doing. At the beginning of this year, DCFPI released a first-ever “resource map” of the city’s workforce development efforts in Fiscal Year 2010 to understand how much we spend on these efforts, as well as who and how many receive services. The map—a visual diagram that accompanies this article—shows what the District spent on services including job training, adult basic literacy, and youth employment as a government. So how many residents got jobs because of these efforts? Unfortunately, that’s not so clear. The District needs to put in place better measures to report on the performance and outcomes of these programs, so we can strategically use our limited resources to put more residents on the path to careers and prosperity.
